Every summer, Workshop Fellows in the Publication Track gain hands-on practical experience producing and publishing an issue of PubLab, the official online journal of the LARB Publishing Workshop and a LARB channel. Afternoon sessions led by the LARB editorial team and occasional guest lecturers will offer training in skills such as organizing a masthead; assembling editorial and production calendars; the fundamentals of developmental editing, copy editing, fact checking, and proofreading; CMS and WordPress basics; art direction and image copyrights; and more.
Established in 2018, PubLab is the official journal of the Los Angeles Review of Books Publishing Workshop. An annual journal dedicated to promoting access, representation, and creativity in the publishing world, features original essays, profiles, and interviews alongside literary and visual art. We seek to balance the voices of established industry professionals with the perspectives and ideas of emerging publishers and artists.
Our name, an abbreviation for Publishing Laboratory, reflects our desire for transformation and dynamic change within a historically homogenous industry, as well as our openness to experimentation and play in our featured work. The 2020 issue, our third, is available here.
